Grow Greene County ‘Gives Back’

A tradition was started in 2016 by the Grow Greene County Board of Directors to surprise deserving agencies in Greene County with a Give Back Award during the holiday season.  This year on the heels of another successful year at Wild Rose Jefferson, the Grow Greene County Board gave out six Give Back Awards on Nov. 19.

Rather than surprise the organizations at their place of business as in years past, the Grow Greene County board invited six agencies to the Thomas Jefferson Gardens to receive an award.  None of the agencies knew the amount of the award they would be receiving but suspected, based on previous years, that they may be a recipient of a Give Back Award.

The organizations invited to attend the presentation included ARC Food Pantry, New Opportunities Greene County Family Development Center, congregate meals, and Adopt-a-Family. Each received a check for $6,000. Checks were also given to Greene County Community School District for $4,000 and Paton-Churdan School District for $2,000 to be utilized within the At-Risk Program and the Rocket Pack program at Paton-Churdan.

Accepting Give Back Awards were (seated, from left) Teresa Lansman for New Opportunities, Tammy Smith for congregate meals, Shirley and Gary Haupert for ARC, Sherry Graven for Adopt-a-Family, and Emily Gannon and Karen Shannon for Greene County Community Schools. Grow Greene board members attending were (standing, from left) Peg Raney, Matt Wetrich, Jeri Hedges, Gabe Karber, Emily Neese, Bob Allen and Norm Fandel.

In the spirit of giving, the Grow Greene County board of directors selected these organizations as they reach citizens in need across Greene County.
